Knowing when its worth investing in a professional photography can be a tough decision to make, especially when our phones hold incredible power to take great photos for us but there are some times when you’re growing your brand that I believe the investment is well worth it.

1. Branding & Headshots
I know that most people do not have the budget to hire a professional photographer when they first launch their flower business, and for many people it starts as more of a side hustle and eventually grows into a thriving business. When you are first starting out, a professional photographer may not be a priority (I suggest building your portfolio of work first) but I’d plan it into your budget for within the first 18 months.
When you're launching (or refreshing) your business — first impressions matter.
If your current photos are outdated, casual, or don’t reflect your aesthetic.
Great headshots help you show up confidently on your website, Instagram, and proposals.
Tip: Opt for a mix of formal headshots and candid behind-the-scenes shots for a well-rounded brand story.
2. Website & Portfolio Images
When you're building or updating your website — especially your homepage and services pages.
If you have beautiful past work but poor-quality photos — you need professional images to sell your services.
Having high quality images of your work established a premium and elevated services which adds to your perceived value.
3. Large-Scale Installations or Editorial Work
For high-budget weddings, styled shoots, or large floral installations.
These moments often produce your best work — capture it properly!
Professional photographers understand how to work with scale, lighting, and detail to make your work shine.
Just remember if you’re getting your own photographer in to shoot that dream clients wedding, make sure you tell your client and their photographer and ensure that your photographer won’t interrupt their process. I suggest ensuring you have enough time at the venue before the clients photographer arrives for your photographer to come in and take images for your portfolio so as to not overlap and potentially get in the way.
4. Product Photography
When launching a new offering — like a workshop, bouquet subscription, or retail product.
Professional photos increase sales, especially for online bookings or e-commerce.
5. Marketing & Press Features
If you're pitching to blogs, magazines, or wedding directories, they often require high-res, professional images.
A strong media kit includes both product and personal photos.
It can be an expense that is hard to spend when you're first starting out but it is absolutely worth every cent! Professional photos help you connect with your audience and build trust in you and your brand. Next week i'll be taking you through what you need to think about when selecting a professional photographer to work with.
