Hiring a professional photographer is a powerful investment in your brand as a florist. Whether you're updating your website, creating content for social media, or finally getting those long-overdue headshots — the right photographer can elevate your business and help you attract your dream clients.

Here’s what to consider when choosing the best fit for your brand:
1. Style Alignment
Review their portfolio: Does their editing style match your brand vibe (light and airy, moody and romantic, bold and vibrant)?
Look for consistency in their work — do all their shoots feel polished and cohesive?
Imagine your flowers in their photos — does it feel like a good fit?
2. Experience with Florals or Creative Businesses
Have they shot flowers before? Florals require attention to color, texture, and detail — not everyone gets it.
Bonus if they’ve worked with wedding vendors, artists, or small product-based businesses.

3. Comfort & Collaboration
Do they make you feel at ease? You’ll get better photos when you feel relaxed and confident.
Are they open to your ideas while offering creative direction?
Can they guide posing or composition — especially if you're shy on camera?
When Carolina took this photo of me I remember feeling physicaly so uncomfortable, I was simply too short to perch on this stool, but it is one of my favourite photos from this shoot
4. Portfolio Range
Can they capture both people and products? (You’ll want headshots, workspace shots, and close-ups of your arrangements.)
Look for variety: flat lays, behind-the-scenes, process shots, bouquets in hands, etc.
5. Deliverables & Licensing
Ask what’s included: How many edited images? What’s the turnaround time?
Make sure you get commercial usage rights (so you can use them on your website, social, print materials, etc.).
If it’s a branding shoot, ask for a mix of horizontal and vertical crops, negative space, and high-res files.
6. Budget & Value
View this as an investment, not just an expense — great branding imagery pays off over time.
If you're on a budget, ask about mini brand sessions or collaborations with other vendors (like a styled shoot).
A good photographer is worth the investment when it comes to building trust and converting clients.
Can you have a few hours rather than a whole day, just keep in mind it always takes longer than you think so if you’re only shooting for a few hours you won’t walk away with as many images
7. Testimonials & Referrals
Read reviews or ask fellow creatives who they've used and loved.
A great photographer will come with happy clients and word-of-mouth praise.
These are some photos taken by dear dear friend and expert photographer Ciaran Wilson in 2017. I still had my flower shop, was relaunching my wedding and event business and needed some fresh headshots. We took such a huge variety of images, apart from the fact that I probably couldn't pass for 28 anymore I could have re used these images for many more years.
Choosing the right photographer is about finding someone who gets you, your work, and your brand. When you find that perfect fit, the results can transform how your business is perceived — online and in person.
